A Look Inside the Fractal Design Epoch Case

Removing the main side panel of the case we can see that we do have a pretty standard two compartment design with a power supply cover separating the two compartments. You will see that we still have that 20% section towards the front of the case. It can be removed with a simple thumbscrew towards the top. While it is not necessary to remove it, it will make it easier to install larger graphics cards and fans / radiators in the front of the case.

When it comes to motherboard support the Epoch will support Mini-ITX, MicroATX, and ATX motherboards. We can see two large grommeted cut-outs for cable routing on the front edge of the motherboard tray. This case will not support back-connect motherboards. If you are wondering the case will support CPU coolers as tall as 170mm.

The power supply cover extends most of the case, but there is a cut-out towards the front to accommodate radiator installation. If you do install a radiator in the front of the case it bring down the maximum graphics card support from 372mm to 345mm. There is also a mount on the power supply cover for one of the hard drive trays if you wanted to move them from the bottom of the case.

The back of the case is pretty standard with your seven expansion slot covers being held into place by silver thumbscrews.

Taking the opposite side panel of the case off we can see how the rest of the case is designed. Right below the CPU cutout in the motherboard tray is a removable SSD bracket that supports two 2.5-inch SSDs.

There are three velcro tie-downs towards the front of the case where you’ll do most of your cable routing. There are also plenty of tie-down points for the included zip ties. The front panel connection cables are white, which is a nice touch. We have a USB-A header, USB-C header, power LED and power switch headers, an HD audio header, and a fan / ARGB header.

Under the power supply cover we of course have our mount for the power supply as well as two hard drive trays, which are removable and made of metal. If you have both trays installed you’ll be able to install a 155mm power supply, but if you remove one that moves up to 255mm. You have the ability to adjust where the hard drive mounts are installed as there are multiple mounting tabs available. This allows you to move the hard drive tray back to accommodate front-mounted radiators. You of course can also mount one of the trays on the roof of the bottom compartment or on the other side of the case on top of the power supply mount. These trays will support both a 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch hard drive at the same time, so this case supports six hard drives out of the box.
