HyperX Alloy FPS RGB Gaming Keyboard + White Double-Shot PBT Keycaps Review

White Double-Shot PBT Keycaps

HyperX has already released the black version of the Double-Shot PBT keycaps, but today they are releasing the white version. What are double-shot PBT keycaps? Well most keyboards you buy (the HyperX Alloy FPS RGB included) will ship with single-shot plastic keycaps. These keycaps will definitely get the job done and feel great, but over-time they sort of wear and become shiny. Obviously you don’t want to happen so many after-market keycap sets are made with PBT. PBT keycaps are highly resistant to friction, temperature and solvents. So basically they will not wear or become shiny.

Most keycaps are made using a single-shot injection molding process, where a single piece of plastic (mold) is used. Double-shot injection molding fuses two pieces of plastic together for a seamless and extremely durable end product. So in the case of these keycaps the first injection is for the sides and legend of the keycap and then another is made to make the thick white layer on top. HyperX’s keycaps are designed as “pudding” keycaps, which means that besides the thick top part of the keycap the sides are more opaque to show off the RGB lighting below.

These keycaps use a standard stem so they will fit on any type of switch that uses them (Kailh, Cherry MX, Gateron, etc). HyperX says that these keycaps will work on any of their keyboards, but they will work on pretty much any keyboard with the same size keycaps and layout. To install these keycaps I would suggest you work key-by-key replacing your old keycaps one at a time. As I mentioned earlier there is a keycap puller included.

With the keycaps fully installed our keyboard looks pretty awesome. I wasn’t sure how they would look as the keyboard has a black chassis, but I really think that the contrasting colors look great!
