HyperX Alloy FPS RGB Gaming Keyboard + White Double-Shot PBT Keycaps Review

Usage & Final Thoughts

I’ve been using the HyperX Alloy FPS RGB Gaming Keyboard for a few weeks now. I used it “stock” without the new keycaps for the first week and a half and then switched over to the new white double-shot PBT keycaps after that.

Overall this keyboard is very comfortable, I honestly thought I wouldn’t like it because it lacked a wrist rest, but I did’t seem to miss it at all. The keyboard has a very solid feel to it and there is absolutely no flex at all. This is thanks to the metal top-plate. This top-plate also makes the keyboard look quite sleek on your desk. That is one think that was missing from the Razer BlackWidow, while it felt great the plastic chassis made it look sort of cheap on our desk. Another thing I really liked about this keyboard is that it is frameless. I am not a fan of massively large keyboards with big frames, the frameless design makes the keyboard look as minimal as possible on my desk.

The Kailh Silver Speed switches are quite good and feel great when gaming. For playing fast-paced games like Apex Legends the shorter travel distance and actuation was nice compared to a typical switch. I do have to say the while Kailh switches are good, Cherry MX switches always feel better in my opinion. Kailh switches are fine here, but you don’t get a choice of what type of switch you get with the keyboard as it is only available in the Silver speed switch. My favorite switch is a blue clicky switch, and I would have loved to have the Alloy FPS RGB outfitted with those switches.

The RGB lighting on this keyboard is some of the best I’ve seen! The floating keycap design definitely helps the RGB lighting reflect off of the metal chassis of the keyboard. The NGenuity software alloys to to fully customize the RGB lighting as well as completely reprogram the keyboard. It works quite well and you can easily load and save profiles.

The new white double-shot PBT keycaps are quite awesome! I was a little worried how they would look on a black keyboard, but I actually love the contrasting look. First off these keycaps really allow the RGB lighting to shine. This is made possible because of the “pudding” design. Every time I look down at my keyboard I say to myself, “damn that looks awesome!” Beyond making your keyboard look sexy these keycaps feel great. The PBT design makes them feel stronger and more stable. Also being PBT means that they will not wear and become shiny after a month of use. The keycaps are designed not only for HyperX keyboards, but any keyboard that has standard stems and uses the same size keycaps. So you can throw these on a lot of different keyboards.

Right now the HyperX Alloy FPS RGB is selling at our favorite online retailer for $109.99, and you can pick up the new keycaps for $24.99. Overall ThinkComputers gives the HyperX Alloy FPS RGB Gaming Keyboard a 9 out of 10 score.
