HyperX Cloud Alpha Gaming Headset Review

HyperX Cloud Alpha Overview
As we take a first look at the HyperX Cloud Alpha it does look very similar to the Cloud II. We have an all black design with a red HyperX logo on the earcups and of course that signature red frame. I really like that HyperX has not gone overboard adding crazy colors or unnecessary things like RGBs to this headset.

Ok so lets talk about the earcups as comfort was one of the main reasons I used the Cloud II for so long. On each earcup you have a large padded leatherette cover. These earcups are designed to fully enclose your ears, which is of course ideal for gaming.

Inside of each earcup you have custom dynamic, 50mm drivers with neodymium magnets. These drivers have a dual chamber design with one chamber for bass and a separate one for mids and highs. This provides more distinction between sounds and minimizes distortion.

On the left earcup you will find two connections. One is for the detachable microphone and the other is your main audio connection.

Talking about the detachable microphone it easy plugs right in. This noise-cancelling microphone has a frequency response of 50Hz-18,000Hz. I really like having a detachable microphone, this allows you to use the headset for more than just a gaming headset.

HyperX provides two cables with the Cloud Alpha. You have the main 3.5 mm cable with integrated volume and microphone mute controls. This is made to connect to your mobile device or combo 3.5 mm ports on laptops and other devices. Then you have a long adapter cable that turns that single 3.5 mm connection into a 3.5 mm headphone connection and 3.5 mm microphone connection. This is of course made for PC use. Absent from this headset is the USB sound card we had on the Cloud II.

HyperX is using an aluminum frame on this headset, in red of course. This provides great stability as well as durability. The headband is adjustable for the perfect fit.

The headband itself has nice cushioning, which should keep things nice and comfortable. The top of the headband has the HyperX logo, which looks really good.
