HyperX ProCast XLR Microphone Review

HyperX ProCast XLR Microphone Overview

Picking up the ProCast for the first time it definitely feels like a premium product with its solid metal frame and is noticeably heaver than HyperX’s USB microphones. It does still have the same type of “pill” design as their previous microphones though.

Located inside the microphone is the rather large 1-inch gold-sputtered diaphragm condenser capsule. This larger condenser enables better high-frequency details compared to electret and dynamic mics and improved low-frequency performance. The microphone does have a cardioid pick up patter, which is perfect for things like voice-overs, streaming, and podcasting.

At the top of the microphone there is a HyperX logo, but unlike the USB microphones there is no tap to mute button up here.

As I mentioned the microphone does not come with any type of stand, but comes pre-installed in the anti-vibration shock mount which of course has the HyperX red cords on it. The shock mount has a connection that will work any microphone stand or arm that uses a a 5/8-inch or 3/8-inch connection thread. At the bottom of the microphone you’ll find your XLR connection. The microphone does require 48V of phantom power so make sure the audio interface you are using has phantom power. It is also worth noting that this microphone does not come with an XLR cable either.

Even though this is an XLR microphone there are a few controls. First you have a low-cut switch that will lower the signal (sound) by 10dB. Then there is a 80 Hz high pass switch. For those unfamiliar a high pass will remove unwanted low frequencies from your audio source.
