HYTE Keeb TKL Keyboard Overview

Taking a first look at the HYTE Keeb TKL we can see it is unlike most keyboards out there. That is because it has this larger outer casing. The outer casing is made of what HYTE calls their crystal bubble polycarbonate. If you are wondering about actual size, the official dimensions of the keyboard are 380 x 180 x 53 mm and it is decently heavy at 2.73 lbs.

A lot of what’s going on with this keyboard is happening under the hood. So first we have a gasket-mount design which is going to give a very good “bounce” when typing. Then we have 4 layers of sound dampening which include 2 Poron layers, 1 IXPE sheet, and 1 silicone layer. This should give the keyboard a really good sound. Finally there is a sand blasted anodized aluminum top plate.

This is a tenkeyless or TKL keyboard that has a total of 96 keys. The keycaps themselves are all black and have see-through legends. They have an HX OEM profile and are double-shot PBT keycaps. As I’ve always said PBT keycaps just feel better overall and they don’t show shine or wear which means your keyboard is going to look brand new all the time. Under the keycaps are HYTE’s Fluffy Lavender Linear switches, which is currently the only switch option available for this keyboard. These switches are rated for 60 million clicks, have an actuation distance of 1.5 mm, actuation force of 36 grams, and a bottom out distance of 3.7 mm. The switches are pre-lubed and are hot-swappable. You are also going to get gold-plated Durock V2 screw-in stabilizers, which are also pre-lubed.

Beyond your normal keys you also have a set of multi-media keys in the top-left corner of the keyboard. These have a different shape than the normal keys on the keyboard, but beyond that they have different switches too! They use HYTE’s Flappy Paddle tactile switches, which are essentially a low-profile blue switch. So not only will these feel different, but they will sound different as well. Above the multimedia keys are two large magnetic rollers, which by default are set to volume and RGB brightness. There is also a button in the middle that can be programmed. The large size of these rollers makes them very easy to access.

Looking at the top-edge of the keyboard we can see a HYTE logo which is meant to be seen through the top part of the casing. In the corner you are going to find your USB-C connection.

Taking a look a the Keeb from the side we can see that it does sit at an angle. Unlike other keyboards that have pop-out feet the Keeb has two large removable magnetic feet. What is nice is that HYTE includes two different sizes of feet so the Keeb can either sit at a 3.73 degree angle or at a 6.06 degree angle.

Flipping the keyboard over we can see those two removable feet as well as three smaller feet which are not removable. The bottom of the keyboard is also clear, which will really make the RGB lighting stand out!
