Intel Will Not Support 11th Gen Rocket Lake Desktop CPUs on B460 & H410 Chipset Motherboards

Today, Intel has confirmed that there will be no support for its 11th Gen desktop processor on the current B460 & H410  motherboards. However, the Z490 & H470 motherboards will officially support the processors.

In a post on its official support page, Intel states that the B460 and H410 chips based motherboards are not compatible with 11th Gen desktop processors. The 11th Gen series consists of two lineups and out of which the Rocket lake lineup will miss out on the compatibility. Fortunately, the entry-level 400-series motherboards will support 1th Gen Comet Lake CPUs, which include Celeron, Pentium, and Core i3.

There could be many reasons behind this decision, which include insufficient power supply, etc., but it won’t stop the unofficial support from board vendors. There is a possibility that manufacturers might release a BIOS update that will enable the Rocket Lake CPUs but with no guarantee of smooth operation.

Intel’s intention to promote their 500 series motherboards could also be a reason. The 500 series is not a worthy upgrade over its predecessor.
