Lenovo ThinkPad T15g Gen 2 Review

Final Thoughts

Having used the Lenovo ThinkPad T15g Gen 2 for nearly a month, I can say that it really lived up to my expectations from a performance and usability perspective. There wasn’t a single task that I threw at it that it couldn’t handle with relative ease, and I even used the laptop on a multi-day trip with great success. Aside from the extra weight that comes along with the beefed-up components and their associated cooling needs, the T15g Gen 2 is still a capable and portable workstation replacement. I also found the type and number of connectivity options to be more than enough for my needs; HDMI was readily available to hook up to an external monitor when my tasks warranted it, and the mix of Type-A and Type-C USB ports allowed me to plug in peripherals like a wireless mouse and a portable SSD.

Built for getting work done, the ThinkPad T15g Gen 2 comes with a plethora of features that help get the job done. From the keyboard that is very comfortable to type on, to the track point and touchpad with tactile feedback, as well as TPM 2.0, a fingerprint reader, 720p webcam that supports Windows Hello, and the standard Kensington lock, this laptop is right at place in a remote or hybrid working environment. It is features like these that more and more businesses are needing or requiring from their tech, and Lenovo is there with some great offerings.

My only major complaint about the ThinkPad T15g Gen 2 is the heat and related noise. Even when idling or doing very menial tasks like word processing or browsing the Internet, the dual fans are almost always running pretty heavily. And when a real load is placed on the system, as we saw in our system and gaming benchmarks, the fans really come alive, working to keep the CPU from thermally throttling. Hitting the thermal limit of your hardware isn’t ideal, and unfortunately the T15g does that quite easily.

As far as price is concerned, the ThinkPad T15g Gen 2 is available in a variety of configurations currently ranging from $1,954.02 all the way up to $4,009.00. As configured, our review unit is currently available for $2,887.24. I really like the fact that Lenovo not only offers the ThinkPad T15g Gen 2 in multiple preconfigured options, but also allows you to customize your laptop to meet your specific needs.

When it is all said and done, the ThinkPad T15g definitely lives up to its hype as a laptop that delivers high-performance for graphics-intensive workloads. Whether it is used for work or play, the T15g Gen 2 can keep up with the best of them. While on the big and bulky side, I would happily accept that trade-off for the performance this laptop provides, and for the price. A great gathering of components, no matter what the configuration, the Lenovo ThinkPad T15g Gen 2 earns a 9 out of 10.
