Lexar SL100 Pro Portable Solid State Drive Review

Final Thoughts

When it comes to these super-fast portable drives most of them are going to have around the same performance. The three USB 3.1 gen 2 drives that we’ve tested so far perform pretty much the same and trade blows in our tests. They are only beat out by the Patriot EVLR, which is a Thunderbolt 3 drive. With speeds of around 950 MB/s read and 900 MB/s write the SL100 Pro is going to be a great portable drive for transferring files, a game drive, or even a drive to edit video on.

Besides performance it is the only USB 3.2 gen 2 drive that we’ve reviewed that comes with software on the drive. This allows you to protect certain files in the case that you misplace the drive or it gets stolen. I also like that Lexar does provide not only a Type-C cable but a Type-C to Type-A cable as well. This helps with backwards comparability as not everyone has a Type-C connection.

Lexar has wrapped this drive in aluminium so it looks great and is protected quite well too. The small size means that you can easily put the drive in your pocket or throw it in a laptop bag. Right now the 500GB version of the drive is selling at our favorite online retailer for $99.99, which we feel is very fair. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Lexar SL100 Pro Portable Solid State Drive a 10 out of 10 score.
