MSI quietly launched GeForce RTX 3060 Ti SUPER 3X Series with GDDR6X memory a week ago. But now according to a report by HKEPC, NVIDIA has asked MSI to issue a recall of its RTX 3060 Ti SUPER 3X graphics card series. These custom GPUs were designed with SUPRIM cooling, but were downgraded to the ‘SUPER 3X’ series, a decision that now appears to have been a mistake.
While NVIDIA has not yet released a SUPER GPU for the RTX 40 series, it remains a possibility for the future. Some may have thought that the use of MSI’s SUPER branding for the RTX 3060 Ti suggested that NVIDIA would follow suit with their own SKU. However, it’s worth noting that NVIDIA did not release any SUPER SKUs for the RTX 30 series either.
And so, the tale of the RTX 3060 Ti SUPER 3X, or SUPER3X, has come to an end. It’s unclear whether the mistake was due to unclear product guidelines from NVIDIA, or if MSI believed that launching the SUPER 3X series only in Asia would not be an issue for the chipmaker. In any case, MSI has taken action by removing the product from its website. However, if any of the cards have already been put up for sale, they could become quite the sought-after collectible item.
