MSI Radeon RX 5600 XT Gaming X Graphics Card Review

MSI Radeon RX 5600 XT Gaming X Graphics Card Overview

MSI has redesigned their AMD Gaming X graphics cards with a more modern and look and I have to say I really like it. You have a grey and black shroud with red accents mixed in and finally a small “Gaming” logo towards the bottom edge of the card. All of MSI’s “Gaming” and “Gaming X” cards will have this same design.

Talking about size this card has official dimension of 297 x 58 x 140 mm. The card is a pretty hefty card too weighing in at 1401g. It definitely larger than MSI’s RX 5500 XT. The card makes use of MSI’s Twin Frozr 7 thermal design so you have two of MSI’s Torx Fan 3.0’s. These fans are different from your traditional fan as they use both a dispersion fan blade as well as a traditional fan blade. This combination creates focused airflow for increased static pressure. These fans also feature MSI’s Zero Frozr technology, which will turn the fans off when there is no load on the GPU.

Looking at the card from the side we can see what makes up the rest of the Twin Frozr 7 cooling solution. There are two very thick heatsink stacks, which are connected by a number of heatpipes. There are actually a total of six copper heatpipes on this card. There is also a dedicated aluminum plate that sits around the GPU socket to help with cooling a stability.

On the side of the card that will face out of your PC there is a MSI gaming logo, which will light up with RGB lighting. Towards the end of the card there are two 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors.

On the back of the card you have a full-cover metal backplate, which not only adds stability, but also helps out with cooling. MSI has also increased the space between the backplate and PCB so more air can pass through the gap. The whole idea is that the backplate can dissipate more heat that way.

Finally coming to the rear of the card we can get a look at the connections. There are three DisplayPort 1.4 and a single HDMI 2.0b. One thing that we can see here is that the card is larger than two slots, I would say it is at least a 2.5 slot card.
