Mushkin GAMMA 2TB Gen4 Solid State Drive Review

Mushkin GAMMA Overview

The Mushkin GAMMA is your typical M.2 2280 (80mm) drive so you’ll have no problem installing this drive on most motherboards. The drive has an all black PCB and a sticker on the top that says Mushkin GAMMA on it.

Flipping over to the back we can see that this drive is a double-sided, meaning that we do have chips on both sides of the drive. On the back there are two stickers on the back letting us know the capacity, serial numbers, etc. Remember if you remove the larger sticker you will void your warranty.

Towards the top of the drive, right near the M.2 connector you’ll find the Phison PS5018-E18 controller. It is interesting that we do not have any cooling (not even a thermal sticker) over it. As I mentioned earlier the Phison PS5018-E18 is going to be one of the main controllers used in this second round of Gen4 drives.

For those wondering about the NAND there are four Micron 96-Layer 3D TLC NAND flash packages per side as well as 1GB Sk Hynix DRAM cache packages.
