Noctua has responded to noise problems reported with its top-tier cooler, the NH-D15 G2. After users complained about the loud fan noise, Noctua began looking into the issue and promised full refunds for those affected. The NH-D15 G2, priced around $150 USD, was released on July 15 across multiple online stores. Although the launch was highly anticipated, users soon encountered notable noise issues when they started using the product.
In response to user feedback, Noctua’s official account reported that the company has thoroughly analyzed the noise issue. The initial findings suggest that the noise may be caused by the loosening of the top heat sink’s interlocking mechanism during shipping. This loosening can lead to vibrations and a slight rattling noise when the cooler is in use. Although the noise increase is minor (<0.5dB(A)), it has been significant enough to elicit complaints from users.
Noctua has suggested a temporary fix for users facing the noise problem. They recommend placing a piece of tape on the side of the heat sink fin or inserting a small piece of plastic or foam, about 1.8 mm thick, between the top and second heat sink fins to reduce vibrations and noise.
If users are unable to resolve the noise issue with these solutions, Noctua has promised a full refund. Affected users can start the refund process by emailing [email protected].
