NVIDIA has recently provided additional information about the upcoming RTX 3050, a budget-friendly option with 6GB of memory. Positioned as a cost-effective alternative to the 8GB model, it aims to compete with the Radeon RX 6750 GRE series.
While AMD GRE models are presently exclusive to DIY channels in China, the RTX 3050 6GB launch appears to have a wider reach. The rationale behind NVIDIA’s decision to limit the specifications instead of reducing the price of the 8GB SKU is unclear. Notably, the RTX 3050 isn’t highly favored among desktop gamers. Nevertheless, it seems NVIDIA’s primary aim in launching this product is to provide a more affordable option priced below $200.
Earlier predictions suggested that the card might premiere with a GA107-325 GPU, boasting 2048 CUDA cores—512 cores fewer than the existing 8GB SKU. Furthermore, the utilization of 6GB of memory suggests a potential limitation with a 96-bit memory bus.
According to details from Board Channels, the anticipated launch price for the RTX 3050 6GB card is projected to be $179. However, it’s crucial to note that pricing frequently fluctuates before the official release, making it challenging to confirm this claim at present. The existing RTX 3050 model with 8GB is priced at approximately $220, indicating that the 6GB option would be at least $40 more affordable.
