NVIDIA has officially announced the launch of the new RTX 4070 GDDR6, which is a variant of the previously upgraded model that received SUPER specifications in January. The original RTX 4070 is still available, and there are no signs that it will be discontinued. Today, NVIDIA unveiled this new version of the card.

The only change in this new version is the memory upgrade, which now features GDDR6 memory running at 20 Gbps, compared to the original model’s GDDR6X memory at 21 Gbps. Based on the official specifications, both versions share the same clock speeds, memory capacity, and likely the same TDP settings. Instead of being released as a new SKU, this card is listed as a ‘GDDR6’ variant of the existing model.

In terms of specifications, the card is equipped with an AD104-251 GPU featuring 5,888 CUDA cores. It also includes 12GB of memory connected to a 192-bit interface. Due to the slower memory, this results in a 5% decrease in bandwidth, dropping from 504 GB/s to 480 GB/s. NVIDIA has stated that the card will deliver ‘similar’ gaming performance, but they haven’t provided any specific data or performance charts to back up this claim.

The card is anticipated to have the same 200W TDP and will support either 12VHPWR or 8-pin power connectors. The MSRP is expected to remain at $549, matching the current price of the RTX 4070 after the SUPER variant’s release in January.

Interestingly, none of the already announced custom designs prominently mention the GDDR6 memory specs in their marketing. This could make it easy to unintentionally purchase the GDDR6 version, so buyers should be careful.

To improve supply and availability to meet strong demand, we’re introducing the GeForce RTX 4070 with extra fast GDDR6 memory. All of the other specs remain the same. It offers similar performance in games and applications.

It will be available from our graphics cards partners worldwide, starting in September. It is supported in today’s Game Ready Driver. For more details on the GeForce RTX 4070, visit the GeForce RTX 4070 family product page on GeForce.com.
