If you are looking to add a little more bling to your setup the NZXT HUE 2 Ambient RGB Lighting Kit is the perfect thing. Not only is it going to look good, but the backlighting will reduce eye fatigue. NZXT provides everything you need to get this kit installed and up and running, they even include wipes to clean off your monitor before you get the kit installed. The included instructions were easy to follow and we had that kit installed in no time at all.
The big thing that NZXT is advertising with this kit is the Ambient Mode. Basically it will mimic the colors on your screen and display them accurately on RGB strips. In my testing this mode worked quite well, not only during normal computer activities, but also during gaming. I played the Division 2 and Apex Legends and the colors were represented accurately, giving me a more immersive experience. Now I do have to say that Ambient Mode is reproducing what it sees on the screen, so if you are playing in Windowed mode or not full screen it is not going to show the colors across all of the strips.
Besides and Ambient mode you can fully customize the lighting using NZXT’s CAM software. There are quite a lot of pre-set effects, but you can also create your own custom RGB layout. While many people are not a fan of the CAM software it works pretty good with the HUE 2 kit, although it does feel a little dated.
Note: This is V2 of the kit, which comes with the extra adhesive for and monitor cleaning wipes. NZXT is offering upgrade kits (free with proof of purchase) to people who bought the first kit. You just need to contact NZXT customer service.
This kit is not cheap by any means, it will set you back $109.99 at our favorite online retailer. That is a lot compared to other normal RGB kits for your monitor, but those kits do not offer software control or the very cool Ambient Mode. Overall ThinkComputers gives the NZXT HUE 2 Ambient RGB Lighting Kit a 9 out of 10 score.
