Phanteks Eclipse G500A Case Review

A Look Inside

Removing the main side panel we find something interesting. There is a rubber lining around the edge of the panel. This is to close any gaps between the glass and frame of the case.

With the side panel removed we can see that have a pretty standard two compartment design where the compartments are separated by a power supply cover. As far as motherboard support this case supports mini-ITX, micro-ATX, ATX, and E-ATX (up to 280mm wide) motherboards. There are plenty of cable routing holes around the motherboard tray for easy routing of all of your cables.

Towards the front of the case we find four sliding covers. These will help hide all of your cables that will sit behind them and cover the mounting holes for the larger hard drive cages if you aren’t using them in this location. They slide which gives you the ability to open them up to route your cables and then close them to cover as much of the cables as possible.

Towards the front of the case we can of course see our three fans and there is a very large cut-out for those who plan to do watercooling in this case.

There is an interesting plastic piece on the top-side of the power supply cover. If you press on it, it reveals a cable routing hole.

Looking at our expansion slots they all have thumbscrews, which are silver. Honestly I think silver hardware in a white case looks so sleek compared to all white. Looking at the three vertical slots there does not appear to be much room beyond the third slot, so if you have a card that is slotted for 3 slots, but the cooler extends past that you are going to want to make sure it will fit in this case.

Mounted in the power supply cover is an RGB strip and a cool Phanteks logo, both of which you’ll be able to see through the side panel window. There is also a cut-out window for your power supply.

Moving around to the other side of the case thing first thing we see are the two large cable cover doors, these are made of metal by the way. They are on hinges so they can easily be opened up or closed. You will notice white dots on them, these are simple hole covers. The holes on these doors allow you to install up to six 2.5-inch SSDs (3 per door).

Removing the vertical door we can see all of our cables being routed and there are four two-sided Velcro cable ties. These not only help route all of the cables from the front and top of the case, but also the cables that will come from your motherboard. Removing the bottom door we find two more smaller Velcro cable ties and of course it opens up the bottom section of the case.

Towards the top-front of the case you’ll find a small PCB. This actually controls the lighting effects on your fans and the LED strips in the case. This is not a fan controller, but a sort of ARGB controller. All of the fans are pre-wired and all you have to do is connect a single cable to a PWM header on your motherboard. When it comes to RGB all of the RGB devices are connected to each other and allow for you to add to them.

There are three simple 2.5-inch SSD trays that are on the back of the motherboard tray.

The bottom section of the case will of course house your power supply and towards the front of the case there are holes which allow you to mount the included larger hard drive cages.

As far as where and how you can mount the larger hard drive trays. You can either install them side-by-side in the bottom of the case or you can stack them down there. You can also install them in the main compartment of the case if you remove the sliding covers. For those who may have more than two 3.5-inch drives you can buy more of these cages as the case supports more than just the two that are included.
