Razer BlackWidow (2019) Gaming Keyboard Review

Razer BlackWidow (2019) Overview

Taking a look at the Razer BlackWidow we can see that it is a full-size 104-key keyboard. So you have a full complement of keys as well as a full number pad. There are no macro keys or dedicated multi-media control buttons / dials.

The keyboard itself has the typical shape we’ve come to know Razer keyboards for with its angles and small Razer logo at the front of the keyboard. The keyboard has a black on black look, one thing that really caught my attention was the textured plastic casing. Typically when it comes to gaming keyboards we’ve seen many companies use a metal casing or at least a metal top-plate. Razer did however tell us there is a metal plate inside the cases, this is likely why the keyboard has a decent weight to it.

Since there are no dedicated multimedia keys you do have multimedia functions as well as a few other built into the function row. You’ll also notice a row of indication LEDs on this keyboard. The first three are caps, scroll, and number lock. The next one is for on-the-fly macro recording, and the final one is for gaming mode.

The keycaps are your typical ABS kind that you’ll find on most gaming keyboards. When it comes to the switches Razer is using their own Green mechanical key switches. These were actually updated last year with a new dual-wall design that reduces key wobble and improves stability. The Green switches are Razer’s clicky switches and I’ve been a fan of these ever since they first were released.

Looking at the keyboard from the side we can see that the design of the keyboard is at a slight angle upwards, although for me it is still pretty flat. Using the pop-out feet you can easily make this angle more extreme.

Flipping the keyboard over we can see these those pop-out feet as well as the five rubber feet on the bottom of the keyboard which will keep it in place even during the most intense gaming sessions. The USB cable is permanently attached to the keyboard but you can route it straight out of the back of the keyboard or out of either of the sides.

The USB cable is nicely braided and see very high quality.
