Rocket League to become free-to-play later this summer

Everybody loves free games! Over the last couple of years, we have seen many games take the free-to-play route, and now another very popular game is joining the ranks. Rocket League is going free-to-play later this summer. Read on!

Psyonix, the developers of Rocket League have just announced that the popular game will be free-to-play soon. This change will be across all platforms. The game has been wildly popular as a paid title, as well as been a part of the Xbox Game Pass.

Psyonix is now owned by Epic Games, which explains this move. Epic Games has been giving out a ton of games for free on its store in a move to compete with Steam. This move too will remove the game from Steam for new players. Existing owners will, however, get updates and support from Steam. New players will get the free-to-play version of Rocket League on the Epic Games Store.

This summer update, which Rocket League calls its biggest update ever, will also add a cross-platform progression system in addition to other new features. The game will link to your Epic Games account and sync all your progress across every platform you play it on.
