RX Vega 64 Bests GTX 1080 Ti in DX12 Forza 7 Tests

The folks over at ComputerBase.de got their hands on an early copy of Microsoft’s upcoming Forza 7 driving game, and found that AMD’s RX Vega 64 often outperformed NVIDIA’s GTX 1080 Ti, by up to 23%.

When running their standard benchmarks, they found that AMD’s RX Vega 56 and 64 products in some instances outperformed not just the GTX 1080, but the GTX 1080 Ti as well.

As seen below, both the RX Vega 56 and 64 best NVIDIA’s GTX 1080 Ti, and the previous generation RX 580 comes in behind the GTX 1070, but above the GTX 1060.

Increasing resolution to 1440p, the performance gap shrinks, but the RX Vega 64 remains on top of the charts. The RX Vega 56 is surpassed by the GTX 1080 Ti, but still puts out better numbers than the GTX 1080.

AT 4K, NVIDIA’s GTX 1080 Ti takes back the lead from the RX Vega 64, but the GTX 1080 and RX Vega 56 had nearly identical results.

These results are surprising to say the least, taking into account previous results comparing the RX Vega lineup to the GTX lineup. Both sets of cards were tested with an official set of drivers, and NVIDIA has even responded to these results, saying that they are accurate to their expected results.

Will future DX12 titles swing the pendulum of performance back to AMD’s side? Only time will tell, but this is good news for AMD and consumers as well, as a competitive market keeps our prices down.
