Samsung Develops Industry’s First 8 Gb LPDDR4 Mobile DRAM

The new eight gigabit (GB), low power double data rate 4 (LPDDR4), mobile DRAM is the industry’s very first innovative memory technology and has been devised by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. This comes as no surprise because Samsung has already been known as a leader in this memory field. This next gen LPDDR4 DRAM is going to go out of its way to make a noteworthy contribution to the faster growth global mobile DRAM market and the memory is only a few milestones away from achieving the largest market share.

Young-Hyun Jun, executive vice president, memory sales & marketing, Samsung Electronics is quite positive about the company’s take on this DRAM market and quite ambitiously stated that Samsung is just not going to stop here but it has full plans to continue introducing the most advanced mobile DRAM one step ahead of the rest of the industry. This is also going to encourage the global OEMs to launch innovative mobile devices with higher consumer convenience. This new high-speed 8Gb LPDDR4 mobile DRAM by Samsung is perfectly suitable for providing the highest level of density, performance and energy efficiency for the mobile apps which results in users getting faster access to apps and they surely have advanced features and even higher resolution displays.

Moreover, it makes use of the Low Voltage Swing Terminated Logic (LVSTL) I/O interface which came in a proposal made to Samsung by JEDEC. With its success, it has now become a standard specification for LPDDR4 DRAM. With this interface, the LPDDR4 chip is going to generate a data transfer rate per pin of 3,200 megabits per second (Mbps). as mentioned earlier, it is extremely energy efficient and consumes approximately 40 percent less energy at 1.1 volts.
