According to a post on Clien Forum, Samsung has recently signed a long-term partnership contract with AMD.
Enthusiasts claim that the RDNA2 based Exynos is 30% faster than the Mali-G78 GPU which is used in Galaxy S21 Ultra along with Exynos 2100 SOC. This means a successor with external IP graphics might be more powerful but there are some throttling issues as a leakster claims. Moreover, GSMArena reports that the GPU is 20% slower on the second run and 30% slower during the third one.
The leakster also claimed that Samsung is pleased with AMD adaption to such an extent that they started negotiating the contract for the mRDNA successor.
“It is said that it is right to overwhelm the competitor in peak performance in the actual performance test entering the Samsung Exynos side. AMD is currently testing mobile with the same specifications, and it shows similar frame performance.
However, the throttling is stronger than expected, so after the first test, the performance drops by about 20%, and after the second test, the performance drops by about 30%. The important thing is that this 30% performance drop is higher than that of ARM’s latest Mali series. Even next year’s next-generation Mali lineup is slightly lower than the high-end peak performance…
It is worthwhile for Samsung to give up its own GPU and adopt AMD architecture. It is said that Samsung has gained confidence in this and is also negotiating a contract for the AMD mRDNA successor architecture.”
During Computex 2021, AMD’s CEO Dr. Lisa Su shared that Samsung’s flagship Exynos SOC will use the RDNA2 GPU. Samsung has confirmed that their flagship SOC will support raytracing and Variable Refresh Shading.
