Samsung has just launched the Galaxy Player 5.8. If you can guess by the name it features a 5.8-inch (960×540) display. 5.8-inches is quite large, it makes the Galaxy S III’s 4.8-inch screen look small! The Galaxy Player 5.8 will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as well as the latest version of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.

This device is a media player, not a phone. It will be available in 16GB and 32GB models and feature a front-facing camera, microSD card slot, and 2,500mAh battery. It will be available in both white and black versions. It looks more or less like the Galaxy S III, but is just bigger. So if the Galaxy Note is not big enough for you and a 7-inch tablet is too big this sits right in the middle. It should be available for back to school.

The only thing I want to know is how long that battery will last. I could use a media player. My phone lasts all but a day, but it has a tiny 1500mah battery. But I can push for five if I keep data and wifi disabled while only using it for music and phone functions. This media player should last a good long time, but the price point will really matter too. Hell, even the internals will matter. Screen res being qhd at that size is fine by me.
