Scythe Grand Kama Cross 3 CPU Cooler Review

Scythe Grand Kama Cross 3 Overview
So the Grand Kama Cross 3 CPU Cooler is pretty big! The official dimensions are 171 x 147 x 140 mm / 5.79 x 5.51 x 6.73 in so you are going to want to make sure the cooler will fit in your system. Despite its size Scythe says that the cooler will not interfere with memory or VRMs around your CPU socket.

The Grand Kama Cross 3 has a really unique design to it. It is a dual-heatsink cooler, but the heatsinks are not in a dual-tower design like we see on many coolers. They are each set at an angle making a “V”. Scythe calls this their X-Struktur design.

Then you have a 140 mm fan which actually blows air down on these two heatsinks. The fan is Scythe’s own GlideStream 140 PWM fan, which a customized version adapted to the Grand Kama Cross 3. It runs at a lower minimum speed and provides, in combination with the heat fin profile, less flow noise.

The fan mounts to the cool by way of metal pieces that are on the end of each heatsink. They are black and have the Scythe logo on them.

Flipping the cooler over we can see that we have a nickel-plated copper base. The base does have a mirror-like finish, but some machining marks are visible.

Coming out of the base of the heatsink you have four 8mm-thick nickel-plated copper heatpipes. 8mm is much thicker than the typical 6mm we see on most air coolers. The heatpipes come out of the base and sort of do a crisscross into the two heatsinks.
