Silicon Power Announces Velox V50 Solid State Drive

Silicon Power has released a new solid state drive series known as the Velox V50. These drives are SATA 6GB/s drives and come in 4 different capacities: 32 GB, 64 GB, 129 GB and 256 GB. Using “the latest controller technology” these drives have rated speeds of 530 MB/s read and 200 MB/s write, although it is not clear exactly which controller these new drives are using. The drives do sport MLC NAND flash.

The Velox V50 drives are available in a 2.5-inch form factor which is not a slim casing, instead it is the normal 9.5mm thick. The housing for the drive is iron grey brushed aluminum. They feature TRIM, Garbage Collection technology, NCQ and RAID and have ECC technology for data transmission reliability as well as SMART for self-monitoring. The drives also come with a 3 year warranty. No official pricing or word on when these drives will be available.
