Silicon Power UD90 Gen4 NVMe Solid State Drive Review

Final Thoughts

When it comes to “value” DRAMless solid state drives I tend to know what to expect and I was actually pleasantly surprised with the performance of the Silicon Power UD 90. It definitely performed up to its listed specifications of 4800 MB/s read and 4200 MB/s write, but is some of our tests the read performance surpassed that by quite a bit. In ATTO Disk Benchmark we saw scores of around 6550 MB/s and in ATTO Disk Benchmark the average read speed in the Linear read benchmark was 6004.5 MB/s. So this drive will definitely perform above its advertised speeds!

Compared to other DRAMless drives, the Silicon Power UD90 beats them out too. This is likely due to the controller, as the UD 90 makes use of the Phison E21 controller and the other drives we’ve tested use the InnoGrit IG5220 controller. It seems as if Silicon Power made the right choice when selecting a controller for this drive.

Silicon Power also backs this drive with a 5-year warranty, which is pretty impressive for a “value” drive. It would really have been nice to see this drive available in a 2TB version though. Right now you can pick up the 1TB of the drive that we reviewed today for $89.99 at our favorite online retailer. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Silicon Power UD90 Gen4 NVMe Solid State Drive a 9 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
