SilverStone MS12 NVMe M.2 Enclosure Review

Final Thoughts

The SilverStone MS12 is a great little device that allows you to extend the lifespan of an older M.2 NVMe solid state drive. I am a huge fan of portable solid state drives and this simple devices allow you to essentially build your own. With the USB 3.2 gen 2×2 interface you can basically max out the connection with most Gen3 NVMe drives, which is going to give you an extremely fast portable drive. Fast enough for a mobile game drive, video editing drive, and more!

One thing that really sets this enclosure apart from others is that it is all aluminum and has heatsinks built in. That way it keeps the drive you have installed nice and cool so you won’t have to worry about thermal throttling. In our testing we did not encounter any type of thermal throttling and the drive was not all that hot at all.

The only thing really missing from this enclosure would be a Type-A cable or at least an adapter.

Right now you can pick up this enclosure at our favorite online retailer for $69.99, which puts it on the higher side, but I feel the enclosures that around the $50-$60 mark are from less-known brands and are not as high of quality as the MS12. Overall ThinkComputers gives the SilverStone MS12 NVMe M.2 Enclosure a 9 out of 10 score.
