Tesoro Excalibur Spectrum Overview
The Excalibur Spectrum has a full keyboard layout meaning you have a full compliment of keys with a full number pad. The keyboard itself is all black with black keys. The overall design of the keyboard is your typical rectangular shape, which many gamers will appreciate.
The keyboard features Blue Kailh mechanical key switches. You do have the choice of Kalih Red and Brown switches as well on this keyboard. The Blue switches are the best of both worlds if you do a good bit of typing and gaming. These switches do have an audible click and perceptible feedback.
While this keyboard does not have any extra buttons, they do repurpose the function keys and a few other keys for other tasks when you hold on the function button. The F1-F5 keys are used to quickly switch between your 5 different gaming profiles. The F6-F12 keys are as follows: Windows Lock, mute, volume down, volume up, play / pause, back, and forward.
Moving over we have a few other alternate functions on keys. The alternate function on the pause key will allow you to easily switch between PC Mode and Gaming Mode. The Insert and Delete keys will allows you to switch between normal typing mode, 6-key rollover and N-key rollover. The up and down arrow keys allow you to turning the backlighting up or down and the left and right arrow keys allow you to cycle through the different backlighting effects.
Taking a look at the orientation of the keys we can see the first three rows from the bottom are angled down. The first two rows have a very steep angle while the third row starts to flatten out. Also the second row sits pretty high above the first row. The 4th row sits flat and that last two rows have a slight angle up. There are pop-out feet on the bottom of the keyboard so you do get a little bit of angle adjustment if you prefer it.
Flipping the keyboard over to the back we can see those pop-out feet and there are 4 larger rubber feet that will keep the keyboard from moving around on your desk.
The attached USB cable is nice and thick and braided. This will ensure that it won’t rip or tear. The USB connection is also gold-plated.
