Software & Lights
When you plug this keyboard in it will automatically be recognized by Windows and will work without installing anything. Although, if you want to reprogram it, change lighting settings, etc you’ll need to download and install Tesoro’s software.
Upon opening the software it shows you which Tesoro products you have connected, in our case it is just the Gram Spectrum TKL.
When you click the keyboard you are brought to a screen that offers you a “Quick Start” or “Advanced” mode.
The “Quick Start” mode only allows you to change the lighting effects. These effects include Standard, Trigger, Firework, Breathing, Star Shining, Cycling, Ripple, Wave, and Spiral. Colors here are limited as well, you only have the choice of 9 colors.
If we go back into the “Advanced” mode we are given the choice of key assignments or or lighting effects. Going into the lighting effects we can see it is very much like the “Quick Start” mode, but we have a full color-wheel where we can input the RGB value and we can set brightness too.
Also you can select the effects to be active on the entire keyboard, WASD keys, Arrow Keys, Number Keys, or FN keys. There is also a custom tab that really allows you to configure the lighting on the keyboard.
The lighting on this keyboard is quite good. Each key is individually backlit and can get quite bright. Also all of the effects work as expected.
Going back into the key assignment section, you can completely reprogram each key on the keyboard. keys can be set to a macro, launch a program, be a mouse function, keyboard function (different key), media controls, a Windows function, or be completely disabled. Creating macros is quite easy too.
