The iPad Mini – What You Should Know

Yesterday Apple announced quite a few different products, a new iPad, new Macbooks, new iMac, but the product that stole the show was the iPad Mini. The iPad Mini is of course a smaller version of the larger iPad. Small enough that you can hold it in just one hand Apple says. Packed with many new features and positioned to compete with the Google Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire it is a pretty impressive device. Are you in the market for an iPad? Or just a tablet in general? In this article we will tell you what the iPad Mini is all about so you can decide if it is the right tablet for you.

The iPad Mini Rundown
The iPad mini is as you can guess a smaller version of the larger iPad. Compared to the iPad (3rd generation) it is s 23 percent thinner and 53 percent lighter. The actual dimensions of the device are 7.87 inches x 5.3 inches x 0.28 inch (HxWxD) and it weighs in at only 0.68 pounds. It has a unibody design we are all used to seeing from Apple and has a sleek aluminum back. It will be available in both black and white models.

So how big is the screen on the iPad mini? The mini features a 7.9-inch LED-backlit 1024 x 768 display. The resolution is the same as what was on the iPad 2, just on a smaller screen. This means everything is going to look crisp and smooth. Also all of the apps that are designed specifically for iPad will look great. Apple believes that the 7.9-inch screen is better for a tablet this size than the 7-inch screen we have seen on many other devices. Apple has also made the bezels on each side of the display smaller, so the display is actually more prominent.

A new upgrade to the iPad mini is the addition of a front-facing FaceTime HD camera. This is an upgrade over previous versions of the iPad that only had a front-facing VGA camera. So you will be able to see your friends in beautiful HD when you are using FaceTime. The other noticeable change for the iPad mini is that it features Apple’s new lightning connector. So if you have a bunch of the older Apple connectors looks like you will be needing to get the new ones.

Powering the iPad and all of its awesome features is Apple’s A5 chip. This is the dual-core 32nm chip running at 1GHz with 512MB of memory. Apple says the device has a 10 hour battery life, but we will have to see when we get our hands on one. Just like the other iPad models the iPad mini will ship with 3 different capacities: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.
