Toshiba Announces MG10-D Series Enterprise HDDs With Capacities Up To 10TB

Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH has introduced the MG10-D Series, a new line of air-filled conventional magnetic recording (CMR) hard disk drives (HDDs) that support SAS and SATA interfaces and offer capacities of up to 10 TB. Leveraging over 50 years of Toshiba engineering expertise, the MG10-D Series delivers improved performance and power efficiency compared to earlier models. These drives include sanitize instant erase (SIE) and self-encrypting drive (SED) options to enhance data security, providing a dependable storage solution for enterprise requirements.

The MG10-D Series HDDs are designed to meet the growing demands of enterprise server and storage applications, offering a notable performance boost. The 10 TB MG10ADA10TE model, in particular, achieves a maximum sustained transfer speed of 268 MiB/s, about 13% faster than its predecessor. Additionally, the cache buffer size has been increased to 512 MiB, and power consumption in active idle mode has been reduced by approximately 21% to 5.74 W. These enhancements aim to improve total cost of ownership (TCO), making the MG10-D Series ideal for business-critical applications such as email, data analytics, data retention, and surveillance.

The MG10-D Series utilizes a 5-disk CMR standard 3.5-inch platform spinning at 7200 RPM. It offers capacities ranging from 1 TB to 10 TB across both SAS and SATA interfaces. The series supports 6 Gb/s SATA or 12 Gb/s SAS interfaces in Advanced format 512e and 4Kn. For older systems, a 512n option is available on the 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB models, supporting native 512-byte block sizes. Engineered for 24×7 enterprise reliability, the MG10-D Series features a workload rating of 550 TB per year, an annualized failure rate (AFR) of 0.44%, and a mean time to failure (MTTF)/mean time between failures (MTBF) of 2 million hours.

The MG10-D Series is set to launch in the third quarter of this year.
