Vantec NexStar SE Dual 2.5-inch Hard Drive Rack Review

Final Thoughts
The Vantec NexStar SE is a simple device that makes it very easy to install 2.5-inch drives in your system if your case does not have mounting support for them.  It also makes it very easy to swap drives in and out of your system, since the entire unit is tool-less.  The trays easily slide our for easy access and the drives pop right in so no need for special screws or even a screw driver.

I really did not encounter a single issue with the NexStar SE, but there were a few things that did bother me.  First there is no way to lock your drives in the device.  It’s a horrible thing, but many people have had things stolen from them at LAN parties.  The trays on the NexStar SE is so easy to remove someone could be off with your brand new solid state drive in 10 seconds because there is no locking mechanism.  Also the blue LEDs on the front of the device are very bright and can get annoying after a while.

If you are looking to get a 2.5-inch solid state drive, but your case currently does not support 2.5-inch drives the NexStar SE is a great choice especially with a price tag of under $20 at my favorite online retailer.  Keep in mind you can also fit two 2.5-inch drives in the NexStar SE, not just one.  Overall ThinkComputers gives the Vantec NexStar SE Dual 2.5-inch Hard Drive Rack an 8 out of 10 score and our Good Value Award.
