Well a graphics card might not fit in a stocking, but I wanted to put it on this list because the PC gamer in your life will definitely appreciate a new graphics card. This is the sure fire way for them to increase the FPS in their games and to give them a better gaming experience. So why the GeForce GTX 970? Well we could have went all out and said a GTX 980 Ti or Fury X, but I feel the GTX 970 gives the mainstream the best “bang for your buck” out of all the cards out there. Every NVIDIA AIB (add-in-board) partner offers a couple different GTX 970’s to choose from too.
Choose a gaming headset can be a hard thing. The two biggest factors is if it is comfortable and if it sounds good. I reviewed Kingston’s HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset almost a year ago and it still sits on my desk and my main headset for my PC. Nothing has been able to touch it in terms of comfort and sound quality. The frame of the headset is made of metal too so you know it is going to last a long time. While the headset is a USB headset it can be detached and used with your mobile device as well.
Want to use a controller with your PC or have it set up in your living room? Valve’s Steam controller is a great way to bridge that gap between the typical keyboard and mouse gamer and console gamer. I tested it extensively while reviewing the Alienware Steam Machine and it really enjoyed it. It is unlike any other controller out there. And since it is made by Valve many games are being updated to make use of it. In Steam there is an entire community of gamers submitting their own custom Steam Controller settings for games, which you can then load yourself.
There are so many gaming keyboards out there so it is really hard to choose. One company that really impressed me was Cougar, who before this past year we primarily knew for their power supplies. The took the big plunge into gaming accessories and their flagship 700K gaming keyboard, which impressed us so much we awarded it with our Editor’s Choice Award. The keyboard is a full-size keyboard that features an aluminum chassis and mechanical keys. The keys are back-lit in orange and the keyboard has too many gaming features to even list here. This keyboard has been on my desk since my review almost a year ago!
I feel that Mad Catz mice are very overlooked and I am not exactly sure why. Their R.A.T. series has been around for the longest time and have been some of the best mice that I’ve ever used. One of their latest entries is the R.A.T. PRO S which was specifically designed for tournament play. It has a rather light design with 8 programmable buttons, a 5000 DPI optical sensor and adjustable palm rest. If you a looking to buy a gift for the serious gamer out there this is the mouse for them!
