ASRock Introduces Thunderbolt 4 Add-on Card

ASRock has announced its Thunderbolt 4 AIC. It is an add-on card that provides an extra two 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 4 ports in the USB-C form-factor and a DisplayPort 1.4 port. The Thunderbolt 4 works exclusively with ASRock’s Intel 500-series chipset motherboards that feature a special header card called “TBT_Header,” which the card requires. The card also requires 9-pin USB 2.0 connection to a header on the motherboard.

Despite the Thunderbolt 4 AIC’s compact measurements of 8.4 cm X 10.41 X 1 slot thick (height), the card has a PCI-Express 3.0 x4 host interface and is based on an Intel JHL8540 “Maple Ridge” controller, and the controller is capable of supporting up to 5 devices in Thunderbolt daisy-chains. It also has two full-size DisplayPort 1.4 ports, and it supports resolutions of up to 5K @ 60 Hz.
