ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2025) Gaming Laptop Overview
The ROG Strix G16 (2025) Gaming Laptop very much has your “gaming laptop look” with a sort of gunmetal color for most of the laptop. If you are wondering about size, the laptop has official dimensions of 13.94″ x 10.39″ x 0.89″ ~ 1.20″ and it weighs in at 5.51 lbs. I would say in terms of laptop size the Strix G16 sits right in the middle.
The lid of the laptop is made of aluminum and features a large ROG eye logo on one side and the text “For those who dare” on the other side. Nothing too flashy, but does let everyone know that you are using an ASUS laptop.
Starting at the sides of the laptop on the left side we have some ventilation, our power connector, a full-size Ethernet port, HDMI, two USB4 Type-C ports, and a combination 3.5mm audio jack.
On the opposite side you have more ventilation and two USB 3.2 gen 2 Type-A ports. You will notice that the laptop is thinner towards the front and a little thicker towards the back. At the front it is 0.89-inches thick and at the back it is 1.20-inches thick.
Around back there is pretty much all ventilation, which is definitely a good sign. If you look at this back section from above you can see that it does say “Republic of Gamers” on it.
Opening the laptop up we are greeted with our display which is a ROG Nebula 16-inch 2560 x 1600 IPS display that has a 240 Hz refresh rate. It offers 500 nits of brightness, 100% DCI-P3 coverage and 3ms response timesa. Right above it is a camera and microphone array. The camera is a simple FHD camera which you can use for taking Zoom calls or taking normal photos. One thing I did notice on the display were how small the bezels were.
Taking a look at the keyboard we can see that ASUS has gone with larger keys here, which are definitely more designed for gaming. It seems ASUS actually wants you to use this keyboard when gaming instead of connecting up a normal keyboard to this laptop. Each key offers 1.9mm of travel. Towards the top of the keyboard there is a row of M1 – M5 keys, which do have set functions, but you can reprogram them.
The touchpad is quite large and offers an interesting productivity feature. If you press down on the “Numlk” text on the touchpad it will activate a number pad on the touchpad itself. Really great for those Excel warriors who can’t do without their number pad.
The hinges on the laptop work as expected, but are not necessarily anything to write home about. On the front part of the laptop where the hinges are you’ll find your two speakers as well as a row of activity LEDs.
The bottom of the laptop has multiple rubber feet and ventilation points. You can remove 11 small screws get get inside the laptop. As far as upgradeability you can swap out the M.2 SSD, the DDR5 SO-DIMMs, and the WiFi module. All are easily accessible.
