be quiet! Pure Base 500 Case Review

be quiet! Pure Base 500 Overview

We received the “Metallic Grey” version of the case, which I would say is more of a gunmetal color. I actually really like this color, but if it is not your cup of tea be quiet! will also offer the Pure Base 500 in white and black. You also have the choice of a plain steel side panel or a tempered glass panel. We of course went with the tempered glass panel. The case itself has official dimensions of 450 x 231 x 443 and weighs in at around 16.5 lbs without hardware installed.

Starting at the front of the case we have a plain front panel, which is made to look like brushed aluminum, but is actually plastic. I actually think the front of the case look pretty awesome, especially in this color. It is a little different from some of the front panels as the corners are sort of angled back. Towards the bottom of the case there is a small be quiet! logo.

If you put your hand under the front of the case there is a pull-out filter. This filter covers the entire bottom of the case.

The front bezel of the case easily pops off to reveal sound dampening material installed on it. With the front of the case removed we can also see one of the two pre-installed Pure Wings 2 140 mm fans. The front of the case will actually support up to three 120 mm fans or radiators up to 360 mm.

Looking at the side of the case we have that large tempered glass side panel. This panel will allow you to show off all of the hardware in your system. Like most side panels it is held into place with four large thumbscrews. Since we are looking at the case from the side we can see the small intake ventilation on the front bezel. These will provide some airflow into the case, but this case is not high airflow by any means.

Moving up to the top of the case towards the front you find a few connections and buttons. These include two USB 3.0 ports, a large power button, and microphone and headphone jacks.

The top of the case has a top cover on it, which by default is used for silent PC configurations as it has sound dampening material on it. If you want a more high-airflow option be quiet! includes a high performance top cover, which is all mesh.

Moving around to the back of the case we have a pretty standard layout. You have the second pre-installed Pure Wings 2 fan at the top, seven expansion slots, and your power supply mount on the bottom of the case. The rear fan mount will also support 120 mm fans.
