Chieftec BL-01B PC Case Review

[ad#review1069-top]Today we get to look at a unique case, one that I’ve never seen before. The Chieftec BL-01B is a case that allows you to mount a 19”-24” monitor right on it! Its L-Type design allows the case to use a VESA Monitor Mount. This case would be a great addition for a business, retail store, or someone just looking to save some space. Read on further to take a look at this one of a kind case.

Special thanks to Chieftec for providing us with the BL-01B Case to review!

o 19”-24” LCD Monitor Support
• Tool-less drive installation

Packaging
The BL-01 comes packaged in a plain brown box. The packaging isn’t the most attractive we’ve seen, but still provides a small bit of information and a front view of the case in black text. Two of the four sides have this information while the other two contain model numbers, serial numbers, etc. Opening the box reveals the case is protected by two large pieces of hard Styrofoam and a plastic bag, surely enough to protect it during shipping.

  1. This is such a neat case. I've been looking for something like this for a long time, and even contemplating assembling my own. It's like a DIY all-in-one with replaceable parts.

Something like this is perfect for kiosks and a compact but still potentially moderately powerful, single monitor gaming rig.

Oh, and it's a Chieftec. Didn't the world think that Chieftec died out when Antec got popular? Haha. I'm glad to see that Chieftec is back in the game with a unique and strong offering and I look forward to seeing more of them in the future.

  3. I've always been a fan of Chieftec. I'd take a Chieftec knockoff over an Antec Gen-2 any day but I don't know how I feel about a case like this. I understand the idea of making the monitor part of case for convenience but in most instances i think it would be more of a hindrance than anything. With the size of workstation PC's now, something like this just doesn't seem practical to me.

  5. I think that was saber's point. What's the use of a case like this if you can get an OEM workstation PC that's even smaller with a monitor sitting besides or ontop of it? I do though think that this would be a good case to incorporate a touch screen to. I could see something like this at the MTO station at Sheetz.

  7. Hmm, i just don't feel this case is all that useful. IT seems possible that if you have a heavy monitor it won't be very stable. Also, there is the issue of the extra heat exposed to your monitor from the case, which will probably shorten its lifetime.

  9. i don't think so, can only fit a monitor 19-24″. When i think of htpc, i think of large hdtvs

  12. Maybe the case is weighted at the bottom? Having the PSU and optical drives right down the bottom adds some ballast for sure. And there just isn't any room up top for a big, heavy aftermarket cooler. And it looks like the case is laid out so the bulk of the heat should travel pretty much vertically up, as good cases should do. Add the fact that there's quite a degree of seperation between case and monitor due to the tilt hinge on the bracket and that's a lot of air for any incidental convection to get through to even reach the monitor…

  14. well, let's hope, it would suck for someone who bought this atrocity to place a monitor on, start adjusting it and accidentally tip it over. TIMBER!

  16. maybe, you would be careful, but what if your niece / nephews came over and were on your computer… calling for disaster.
