Cooler Master Storm Sentinel Advance Gaming Mouse Review

Installation & Software

The mouse does not require any drivers or software to operate. It works right off the bat without any issues. The Stormguard theft system is pretty simple to setup, it is just a PCI slot cover with notches it in the feed the Sentinel’s cable through. Once installed no one will be able to steal the Sentinel off your desk.

OK let’s get into the software. The software is easily installed from the mini CD that is included with the Sentinel Advance. Once installed you can go ahead and open it up. The main control panel sure has a lot to look at. First you have all of the button assignments, then your DPI levels, motion sensitivity, double click speed, button response time and profile selection. On the main “CM STORM” profile you are not able to change any of the buttons, but if you change to one of the other 4 profiles you are able to assign all of the buttons different values. If you notice when you press the DPI up and DPI down buttons the DPI level goes to preset levels. Those can be changed in the main control too. You are able to change both X and Y values in 50DPI increments all the way from 100 to 5600DPI. Each profile can also have 2 different color settings, one for the top LED’s and one for the LED’s on the bottom of the mouse. You have a choice of 7 different color settings. We will get more into the lighting further on in the review.

The mouse also supports macro’s and scripts, which many games support to make it easier on the user. Setting up both macro’s and scripts is very easy.

You are able to save macro’s and scripts in your library and transfer them to the onboard memory of the Sentinel Advance, this way when you plug the mouse in somewhere else the macro’s will still be on there ready to use. Also your lighting effects, personalized settings, and logo for the OLED can be saved on the mouse itself. You are also able to update the mouse, as it does have firmware.

The software allows you to put your team or company logo on the OLED screen. It must be a 32 x 32 BMP black and white picture, no grayscale completely black in white. I had an old ThinkComputers black and white logo so I sized it down and put it on the mouse, it didn’t look that bad! The OLED screen also displays the DPI setting you are running at. Here is a picture of our logo and the CM Storm logo.
