Corsair A115 CPU Cooler Review

Corsair A115 CPU Cooler Overview

The Corsair A115 is quite a large CPU cooler, the official dimensions are 153mm x 155mm x 164.8mm and it weighs in at 1590 grams. Corsair has gone with an all-black design on the cooler so both fans, the heatsink towers, and even the heatpipes are black.

Starting with out front fan, we have a Corsair AF140 ELITE fan. These fans have Corsair’s AirGuide technology utilizes anti-vortex vanes to direct airflow into a concentrated stream. The fans will spin between 400 – 1600 RPM with airflow between 15.3 – 84.5 CFM, static pressure between 0.1 – 1.73 mm-H2O, and noise level between 5 – 33.9 dBA.

Looking at the side of the cooler we can see the dual-tower, dual fan design. The fans attach to the cooler using a ratcheting fan mount system. This has been slimmed down from the A500. Basically you slide the fans into a rail system, it worked quite well in our installation and testing.

Looking at the back of the cooler we can get a better look at the design of the heatsink towers. Each tower has an array of 90 nickel-plated cooling fins, which provide 1.69m2 surface area for rapid heat dissipation. The fins do have a serrated design with a sawtooth-like edge which will minimize the sound profile.

Coming up from the base of the cooler are six 6mm-thick high-capacity cooper heatpipes. These heatpipes go up into each heatsink tower in a “U” fashion which is pretty typical for dual-tower coolers.

The base of the cooler is nickel-plated cooper and it will ship with Corsair’s XTM70 thermal paste pre-applied. While I’m ok with pre-applied thermal paste on entry-level CPU coolers, I’m not sure how I feel about it on high-end coolers like this.
