Software
In order to do some more customization you can either download the mobile app (iOS/Android) or the Mac/Windows desktop app. Since I have been mostly using the Katana V2 with my PC I opted for the Windows app. The Creative App is the same one we’ve seen on their previous products and has a very clean and easy to navigate layout.
The main tab is the software is Device. Here you can select the sound mode. There are your typical presets like Music, Movies, Gaming, etc, but there are also specific modes for Games like Apex Legends, Call of Duty, Counter Strike, and more. You can actually click into the Sound Mode and set a few different settings as well.
The software has a full equalizer that you can easily adjust. Moving down to the Playback tab you can set the audio quality.
There are built-in microphones on the Katana V2. While I wouldn’t necessarily use them as your main microphone in games, they would work just fine for Zoom or Skype calls. There is where the recording tab comes in and you can set the audio quality of the microphone. The last tab is Settings. Here you can check for new firmware, set the display brightness, subwoofer volume, enable energy saving, and set the auto standby time.
Back on the main Device tab you can click into Custom Buttons. Here you can customize each of the C1-C6 buttons on the remote.
Now don’t worry you do not need to have the Katana V2 connected to your PC to change these settings you can easily use Creative’s mobile app.
Lighting
When you power the Katana V2 on you’ll notice an RGB lightbar turn on at the base of the unit. There are a handful of effects you can cycle through or you can turn the lightbar completely off. One of my favorite settings is the reactive mode where the lighting will react to the sounds that you are playing.
