If you own a Western Digital My Book Live or My Book Live Duo external hard drive disconnect it from the internet immediately or all of your data could be completely lost! Western Digital has issued the same recommendation on their website after reports started surfacing of My Book Live users having all of their data deleted without any sort of user interaction with the drives at all! Thousands of terabyte of data have been deleted around the world!
Western Digital is investigating the issue, but suggests you disconnect your drive from the internet until they can solve the issue.
Apparently the drives were factory reset without any sort of interaction from the user. Many users have logs to shows exactly what has happened.
Western Digital stopped supporting their My Book Live products back in 2015. That means it has been six years without any type of security updates. WD seems to think that individual accounts were compromised, in any case if you are still using one of these drives we suggest disconnecting it from the internet if you value your data.
