Fractal Design North XL Case Review

Installation

Installation is pretty straight-forward on this case and since it is larger than the original installation should actually be easier. The first thing we installed was our motherboard, which went in with no problems.

I decided to install our solid state drive in one of the larger trays. Since the trays are removable I was able to install my drive outside of the case, then simply reinstall it.

For the power supply you’ll need to remove the power supply bracket from the back of the case and install it on your power supply. Then slide your power supply in from the back of the case, securing it with the two thumbscrews on the bracket. For those wondering about space between your power supply and the first hard drive tray you can see it in one of the photos below, for reference our power supply is 160mm long.

The last thing we need to install is our graphics card. Fractal was nice enough to send over their Flex 2 PCIe 4.0 vertical GPU riser bracket. This is actually a universal bracket that you can use in pretty much any case as it slots into your existing case. So we install our graphics card on it, then slot it into the case. We use a smaller graphics card for our case installs, but this case will support graphics cards as long as 413mm!

Now we just wire everything up and organize our cables. All of the velcro straps and tie-down points make organizing your cables really easy. When its all said and done we have a very clean build. When you do power your system on the power LED on the system does turn on, it is white, but is not that bright at all.
