Gaming Friday: World of Tanks

We here at ThinkComputers are very avid gamers. So each Friday we will be covering a game that should help you get through the weekend. The games will range from new games to classics that we still love to play. They also are not limited to just PC games either. If you have a game you think we should cover check out the Gaming Friday thread in the forums.

This week we will be covering World of Tanks which is a new free to play game. I myself have been playing the game since its beta testing. Last week the game went live. World of Tanks is a morph/fps. You will gain experience to unlock better upgrades and better tanks. So let’s get into the some more info about the game.

The game is purely tank based right now, later on however they do plan on adding more into the game as in more tanks and maybe infantry. When you get into the game you start off with what they call a Tier 1 tank, but there are currently three different nations right now. You have to choose from USSR, USA, Germany. When you choose your nation, you have to figure out what learning tree you want to go down. There are many different setups you can do; medium tanks, SPG(long range Artillery) or heavy tanks. There are light tanks but they’re mostly starting tanks. With it being purely experience based you have to earn your way up to getting the better tanks. Within a few rounds in your lower tier tank you will be able to move up to a different tree and go from there. I myself went to the USSR tree and leveling up in the heavy tree . In the picture is a shot of the Tank tree.

In the main screen you have your garage with all of your tanks. The space is limited to what availed unless you purchase gold to unlock more packing spots. Also from here you can upgrade your tanks and parts.

Gameplay is fun and the game isn’t really demanding on graphics since it is using DirectX 9 graphics.. Not too bad being a free to play game.

The more you play the faster you rank up. Currently my highest is my Tier 5 heavy tank on the USSR. The best newbie strategy I could give to you all is to level up multiple tanks at once. Once your tank is destroyed hop out of battle and jump in with another, also only use the XP to choose your upgrade path wasting XP on a stuff on lower levels will screw you up and then you will wish you didn’t do it. Also I would look into joining a clan for the next few patches. They will start clan wars which is where you fight for control over Europe with your clan the more you hold the more you get. Here I will include some more screenshots of the game.
