Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Gaming OC 6G Graphics Card Review

Final Thoughts
When you think about it the GeForce GTX 1660 is the perfect 1080p card for most people. You are going to be able to get over 60 frames per second in most titles with the settings turned all the way up. If you wanted to jump up to 1440p you’ll need to turn down your settings a little, but you still will be able to game at over 60 FPS. I think this is a great card for eSports titles like Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Counter-Strike.

Of course NVIDIA also has a GTX 1660 Ti, which is about $50 more. So what are the differences between the two cards? Well the GTX 1660 (non-Ti) has about a 9% decrease in CUDA cores (1408 vs 1536). Secondly while both cards offer 6GB of VRAM, the GTX 1660 (non-Ti) has slower GDDR5 memory compared to the Ti’s GDDR6. In our testing that worked out to about a 14-15% difference in performance in games at 1080p and 1440p. Remember that $50 can go a long way towards a better SSD, better memory, etc.

We took a look at Gigabyte’s Gaming OC 6G, which is their highest clocked GTX 1660. It boosts all the way up to 1860 MHz (reference is 1785 MHz) so that alone will give you a few more FPS in games compared to a reference card. Besides the card being overclocked this card features Gigabyte’s WindForce 3X cooling solution, which features three cooling fans, and a heatsink with three heatpipes that make direct contact with the GPU. This cooling solution is one of the best out there plus when your system is idle or not doing any heavy lifting the fans turn completely off. You also do get an RGB Gigabyte logo on the side of the card, which is a nice plus. This card does have a full-cover backplate, which gives it a nice look, but that backplate is plastic so you aren’t really getting any cooling benefit from it.

Right now this card is selling for $229.99 at our favorite online retailer, which is only $10 over the MSRP of the GTX 1660. It is sort of a no-brainer to pick this card up over a reference card. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Gaming OC 6G Graphics Card a 9 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
