Temperatures
So how does the newer WindForce 3X cooler do? We will be running it through our set of temperature tests. First is our idle test, which is taken from the Windows desktop.
Our first load test is a loop of Heaven Demo 4.0 for 30 minutes. This is a good representation of typical gaming conditions.
Our final test is Furmark’s 15 minute 1920 x 1080 benchmark. This puts the maximum load on the graphics card. Although most users would never put their cards under this much stress we like to include it in our tests.
As you can see the WindowForce 3X cooler does a great job cooling off the GTX 970 GPU. I also do want to mention that even during the most extreme tests the card is very quiet.
Power Consumption
Power consumption for a system is of course very important. To measure power consumption I used a killawatt meter. The idle test is taken on the Windows 7 desktop. The first load test was taken running a loop of Heaven benchmark for 30 minutes and the second load test was running Furmark’s 15 minute 1920 x 1080 benchmark. Keep in mind the wattage value is for the full system not just the graphics card.
As you can see the card is more efficient than both the R9 280X and R9 290X.

It’s huge, I don’t think I would get a graphics card that size, seriously though it’s huge. Nevertheless nice review, I kinda wish I had money to burn becasue I would upgrade the EVGA GeForce GTX 670 to the EVGA GeForce GTX 980 especially with all the new feature it has to offer, maybe next year when we wait for the newer 20nm to launch the following year.

evga 970 have heatsink problem also i think 980 is expensive you can buy 2x gtx 970 nearly same price with more performance.
I’m a little bit confused. The GTX970G1 is overclocked and assumable needs more power than the reference GTX970, so I have a Corsair TX750 PSU and I plan to buy 2x GTX970G1 for SLI setup. do I have to upgrade the PSU or is it going to be fine? I have 1 SSD and 1 Green 6TB HDD + a corsair H100 water cooling for my i7 3770k (may be will be overclocked to 4.5GHz). I need help as I calculated the power needed and it says I need only 655W PSU but I still need to be sure! any advice?
