In Win D-Frame Mini Case Review

Final Thoughts
When it comes down to it we really cannot put the In Win D-Frame Mini in the same category as other Mini-ITX cases out there. It is in a league all its own. This case will stand out anywhere you take it. It has a look that is unlike any other case out there, except of course for the original D-Frame. There is so much quality in this case as well. The frame is made of thick aluminum that is hand-welded. It also has a nice paint job that will not scratch very easily. The two side panels are actually real glass and quite heavy duty. The motherboard tray is made of a thick piece of metal and there really is not much plastic on this case at all. There really are not that many cases out there that are made with this much quality materials.

In Win D-Frame Mini

Besides just looking great this case does have a lot of great features. Normally with Mini-ITX cases you are sort of cramped, but with the D-Frame Mini you have quite a lot of space to work with. You can fit dual-slot graphics cards up to 340 mm in length, full-size ATX power supplies up to 220 mm in length and CPU coolers up to 165 mm in height. On top of that you also can fit a 240 mm radiator in this case. I actually thought installation in the case would be pretty difficult, but it could not be easier. The only real issue I had was that I wish there would have been more threaded holes on the backside of the motherboard tray for the included cable organizers.

Of course there are obvious things that this case is lacking. The first is there is no optical drive support. While this is not a big deal to many people, some people still use optical drives and they are left out to dry here. Next there are no fans at all included with this case. While it is an open-air case it would have been nice to see two 120 mm fans included with the case. Finally the biggest thing is the price tag. Right now this case is selling at my favorite online retailer for around $299.99. This makes it the most expensive Mini-ITX case out there.

Many people have mentioned about dust with this case, but you have to remember we only have two fans installed and most of this case is open. On top of that most of the case is rounded it is hard for dust to find its way into the small crevices in this case.

At the end of the day this is not only a truly unique case, but a well-made quality case that is going to stand out anywhere. With that it is going to carry a premium price. That price puts it out of reach for many people. There is a lot of other hardware you can spend $299 on, but if you want a case no one else will have and that will look amazing the $299 will be well spent.

Overall ThinkComputers gives the In Win D-Frame Mini Case a 9 out of 10 score.
