Intel Core i9-7980XE 18-Core CPU Scheduled For Later This Year

When Intel announced their Core-X Series parts they really surprised us by announcing an 18-core, 38-thread monster in the Core i9-7980XE. Well it seems that consumers will not be able to get their hands on this $1999 processor till at least 2017, if not early 2018.

“Raja@ASUS” on the ASUS ROG forums replied to someone asking about the new CPU saying:

“The 18-core CPUs are not scheduled until later this year. Won’t have them for a while. Either way, unless you’re using the rig for rendering or encoding to make a living, no need”.

Looking at the Core X-Series processor family chart below we can see that the top four Core i9 parts do not have any specifications listed. This leads us to believe that Intel will be doing a staggered release of the Core i9 series, with the Core i9-7900X (10-core, 20-thread) being the current flagship until the rest of the lineup is released.
