Intel to release Atom “Grand Ridge” chip with 24 cores, PCIe 4.0 and DDR5

A leak has revealed Intel’s plan for the Atom branding. Apparently, there is an Atom branded chip in the works, under the “Grand Ridge” range, with a high core count, and lower power consumption, designed for some specific use-cases.

The use-cases in question include enterprise-grade equipment like micro-servers, NAS, network infrastructure hardware, and cellular base-stations. The leak comes from a leaked Intel slide from AdoredTV, and it shows and shows the Intel’s Atom “Grand Ridge” 24-core processor. It will feature the new increased IPC “Gracemont” CPU cores, which will debut on Alder Lake chips as the low power cores. Take a look:

Apparently, this chip will be based on Intel’s 7nm process, and have six clusters of 4 cores each. There’s 4 MB L2 cache for every cluster. Additionally, this SoC is also going to support DDR5 via a 2-channel controller, and 16 lanes of PCIe 4.0.

Since Intel’s 7nm plans are delayed, we should expect this chip to show up in 2022 or later. It seems like Intel is changing the Atom line entirely.
