MSI surprised everyone at Computex by unveiling the Claw 8 AI+ just three months after introducing the Claw 7, its first handheld device with an Intel Core Ultra 100 series processor. However, the pricing remains similar, which might not be enough to attract the remaining potential customers.
Those who waited might soon find the new Claw model appealing, as it will be equipped with the Core Ultra 200V “Lunar Lake” processor, offering better power efficiency and enhanced graphics performance. MSI is also expected to update the physical design, including a larger screen and battery.
To recap, the Claw 8 AI+ will feature a larger 8-inch screen and a bigger battery. MSI confirmed at Computex that the battery will have a capacity of at least 80Wh. This detail has been further validated through the first official slide, with the aspect ratio adjusted for improved viewing.
MSI has not yet confirmed the Lunar Lake SKU, as it is still under embargo, but the rest of the specifications have been confirmed. The handheld will include an 8-inch 16:10 Full HD+ (1920×1200) display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 500 nits of brightness, and IPS-level quality with Variable Refresh Rate support. The 8-inch handheld market currently includes premium devices like the Lenovo Legion Go and AYANEO Kun.
The most significant upgrade is the 80Wh battery, which is 50% larger than the Claw 7’s. This increase will make the device heavier and physically larger, though specific details have not yet been confirmed. The battery size will be on par with the ROG Ally X, which uses the updated Ryzen Z1 Extreme but still has a 7-inch screen.
MSI has not confirmed the release date yet, but with media briefings already taking place and the Lunar Lake launch set for September 3rd, the handheld is likely to be among the first products fully revealed. Hopefully, it won’t be priced as high as the 7-inch model, though there are doubts that MSI will lower its pricing.
