MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Gaming X 6G Graphics Card Review

MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Gaming X 6G Overview
Taking a first look at the MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Gaming X 6G it has the same design we’ve seen from MSI’s Gaming X cards in this generation. The shroud covering the card is black with gunmental accents around the two cooling fans. I’ve always liked MSI’s Gaming X designs and this one is no different.

This card is making use of MSI’s Twin Frozr 7 cooling solution. This cooling solution is made up of two MSI Torx 3.0 fans, which feature two different types of fan blades for better airflow and improved static pressure. These fans sit on top of a large heatsink stack that has three large 6 mm heatpipes that make direct contact with the GPU. With Twin Frozr 7 MSI has achieved 13% better cooling performance than the previous generation.

This card also has a premium backplate, which is brushed aluminum and looks pretty awesome. Towards the end of the card is the MSI Dragon logo. For those wondering MSI is using a custom PCB on this card with a 4+2 power phase design.

At the top of the card we have an emblem that says “MSI”, “Twin Frozr 7” and has the MSI Dragon on it. This will actually light up with RGB lighting when you have your system powered on. There is also “GeForce GTX” branding on the top of the card. The card is powered by a single 8-pin PCI-Express power connection, just like the GTX 1660 Ti. Looking at the other side of the card we can see the three thick heatpipes.

The connections are the same as on the GTX 1660 Ti as well, so you have three DisplayPort 1.4 and a single HDMI 2.0b. Again, no NVLink support or VirtualLink on these cards.
